Sustainability at Hotel Continental

In 2019, Oslo was European Capital of the Environment. This shows that Oslo is one of Europe's most ambitious and energetic cities when it comes to the environment and climate. Hotel Continental is committed to a green and sustainable future. We work continuously with environmental improvements and document the development through our environmental reporting.

Eco-Lighthouse certified

Hotel Continental is Eco-Lighthouse certified and has been since 2011. This means that our business takes sustainability seriously and has met strict requirements for: working environment, purchasing, energy, transportation, waste, emissions and ethics. By choosing us, you are contributing to a more sustainable future.

Cut food waste

In Norway, billions of kroner worth of food is thrown away every year. This is not sustainable, either for profitability, the environment or for ethical reasons. Together with the rest of the hospitality industry in Norway, Hotel- og Restauranthuset Continental has set itself the goal of cutting down on food waste. Join us in cut food waste You too!

Our environmental initiatives

Green heating of all areas with district heating.

Certified green electricity, only from renewable energy sources.

Heat pump and heat recovery on all HVAC systems.

Waste sorting in 28 fractions.

Food grinder for food waste reduction.

Requirements for suppliers in relation to reduced packaging, less cardboard, paper and plastic.

Source separates 70 % of waste.

Re-fill products in guest bathrooms, get to no disposables, and none in plastic.

Laundry bag for handing in guest laundry.

No plastic packaging on slippers.

Information and encouragement for guests on the back of the key card:

  • Join the locals and drink delicious Norwegian water straight from the tap.
  • Avoid plastic waste.
  • Please hang up the towel to signal that it will be reused. Only towels on the floor will be replaced.

We are also generally keen to reduce our use of paper and have therefore moved more and more to digital platforms and away from marketing and information on paper.

Invitation to our guests

We can introduce many great measures to ensure a greener future, but we also need to include our guests in a green mindset. We therefore encourage our guests to e.g. use the towel several times, not change the bed every day, drink water from the tap, order the right amount of food, etc.
